“A Country Flourishing from the Bud – 500 Tea Villages” National Programme

As part of the national programme “A Country Flourishing from the Bud – 500 Tea Villages,” implemented with the aim of strengthening the economic well-being of smallholder tea growers, the Seepoth and Mahabage Grama Niladhari Divisions in the Yatiyantota Divisional Secretariat Division are scheduled to be designated as tea-growing villages, with various programmes to be implemented accordingly.

As the first phase of this initiative, the “Seepoth Tea Growers’ Village” was established recently (16th) under the patronage of Hon. Dr. Nandana Millagala, Member of Parliament for the Kegalle District and Chairman of the Yatiyantota Divisional Coordinating Committee.

The programme commenced with the blessings of the Chief Incumbent of the Seepoth Temple. Hon. Members of the Yatiyantota Pradeshiya Sabha, the Divisional Secretary of Yatiyantota, Mrs. D. Anoma Dissanayake, the Tea Extension Research Officer, the Grama Niladhari of the Seepoth Division, other government officials, members of the Seepoth Tea Society, and a large number of residents participated in the programme.

Outdoor Training Programme for Officers on Disaster Camp Management

Under the guidance of the Divisional Secretary of Yatiyantota, Mrs. D. Anoma Dissanayake, and the Assistant Divisional Secretary, Mrs. Nadeeshani K. Weragala, an “Outdoor Training Programme on Disaster Camp Management” organized by the Training Division was conducted (17th) in the areas of Seepoth, Nagasthenna, and Soththuwatta.

Mr. P. S. Gauthamadasa, former District Commissioner of the Scout Association, and Mr. Channa Jayawardena, District Youth Services Officer, provided the necessary resource-person support for the programme.

Practical training was provided on camp management during emergency disaster situations. The officers were also made aware of important matters to be considered when setting up tents, preparing food with minimum facilities, and carrying out other related activities.

The programme was attended by a group of officers, including Assistant Divisional Secretary Mrs. Nadeeshani K. Weragala, Administrative Officer Mr. G. K. P. S. Kumara, Grama Niladharis, Community Empowerment Officers, and Field Officers.

The programme was organized by Mr. Dilan Jayalath, Development Officer of the Training Division, together with other officers.

Awareness Programme on Women’s Health Issues

An awareness programme on women’s health issues, organized under the guidance of the Divisional Secretary of Yatiyantota, Mrs. D. Anoma Dissanayake, and the Assistant Divisional Secretary, Mrs. Nadeeshani K. Weragala, was held recently (17th) at the premises of the Sri Nandarama Temple in Yatiyantota.

Mrs. Mahisha Senarathna, Medical Officer of Community Health, served as the resource person for this programme. The programme was organized jointly by the Women’s Development Officer and the Ayurvedic Development Officer.
